Matthias Kirschnereit is a highly gifted German pianist whose recordings of these demanding early Brahms works can stand beside the best ones we know.
He is a colorist with a virtuoso technique, a huge dynamic range, a sense of controlled abandon, an inquiring musical mind, and a pair of extra-sensitive ears.
It is clear that Matthias Kirschnereit is an exceptionally gifted pianist and musicians from whom we should hear much more. I have heard few more suspicious piano debut recordings, and I consider these at least on a par with Krystian Zimerman’s fine CD versions of these works. |
